Originals on Paper
Some original calligraphy is done directly on paper or wood. This sounds easy, but the whole project has to be measured, and often done as a sample, to make sure it will fit in the desired space.
Again, the calligraphy on hand torn paper looks simple, but it has to be precisely planned and is very time consuming. The whole process is measured and laid out as a sample, to make sure it fits on the page in an attractive way. Each sheet of paper is then measured, hand torn, and painted the desired background color. Only then is the calligraphy done. If a mistake is made, that particular section has to be completely redone. To cover the gold layer, the Chinese character needs to have three layers of paint.
When the tearing, painting and calligraphy is complete, the work is assembled and framed.
